If you want to drive a truck in Ontario, you need a commercial truck driver’s license. The following information will help you understand which truck license you need and the steps you need to take to get your restricted Class A (full or restricted) or Class D license.

The type of truck license you need depends on the weight of the vehicle, weight of towed vehicle, combined weight, whether the vehicle is equipped with air brakes, or is a tractor-trailer.

With a DZ License you can get a great paying job driving;

- Dump trucks

The in-class portion of obtaining your DZ license spans 65 hours and covers vehicle operation, defensive driving, map reading, trip planning, dangerous goods, inspections, air-brake system (Z endorsement), and border-crossing procedures.

The in-vehicle practice portion of the course spans 22 hours and covers double-clutch a multi-gear transmission, perform turns in light traffic, parallel park like a pro, drive comfortably on both the highway as well as in the city, stop and start on both an incline and decline, make elegant turns in heavy traffic, pass and overtake slower vehicles, and perform gear recovery techniques with precision.

The In-Yard Practice portion of the course spans 6 hours where you work on pre-trip inspections, in-cab inspections, as well as how to perform your air-brake inspections.

Upon completion of the DZ program and a successful ministry road test, you will receive:
